Job Summary/Basic Functions

This very critical role to the University Libraries department will provide library and information resources to support the mission of the university. This role will also provide leadership, direction, and responsibility in the management of the cataloging unit in the university libraries.

This role will Manage the cataloging unit and serve as the Data Custodian and Applications Administrator. In some instances this role will train, supervise and revise the work of staff and student assistants. This role will be expected to participate in staff development activities as required in order to stay abreast of new and emerging technologies and programs.

Minimum Qualifications

The necessary knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this role are:

MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program.
Demonstrated considerable experience in technical services operations; preferably in an academic library is required.
Demonstrated experience with a bibliographic utility, preferably OCLC.
Demonstrated experience in the use of an integrated library system.
Demonstrated skills in current and conventional cataloging (MARC21, AACR2R, RDA, LCC, LCSH) and principles of authority control is required.
Demonstrated knowledge of emerging metadata standards (Dublin Core, EAD, etc.);
Strong Management and leadership skills
Excellent communication skills are required.
Demonstrated proficient use of word processing and spreadsheet programs, preferably MS-Office suite
Demonstrated use of electronic mail and the internet are also required.

 

**Willingness to work an occasional evening and weekend.
