Job Summary/Basic Functions
Position will be responsible for monitoring the energy management system for all buildings; taking readings of steam flow totals, oil, and gas consumptions, and CO2 adjustments and OS temperatures; performing corrective maintenance for all stem systems failures such as leaking ball joints, expansion joints, valves, and piping; performing corrective maintenance for all portable water systems failures such as pumps, motors, and controls; performing preventive maintenance for all boiler systems such as draft gauges, burners, soot blowers, and controls; performs preventive maintenance for feed water pumps, hot well pumps, and DA tanks; performs hourly reading to check for visible defects to maintain safe and normal operation; supervises power plant mechanic on assigned shift to ensure work tasks are performed in a safe and timely manner; participates in hiring process; evaluates work performance; enforces standards of conduct; provides guidance and training; takes chemical readings to monitor boiler for proper levels; maintains daily log sheets and chemical readings on computer; receives and reviews requests for emergency or repair services and determines appropriate action deemed necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have considerable knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment. Considerable experience operating and maintaining of steam and power plant equipment; extensive knowledge of pressure vessel boilers and maintenance, water treatment, and auxiliary mechanical equipment operations and maintenance associated with steam/heat plant operations is required. Experience in the maintenance and operation of utility or industrial power production systems is required. Successful candidate must be flexible, energetic, and willing to work for a 365/24 hour operation; may be required to work alternate shifts; demonstrated experience working with SCADA Automation Systems, plumbing pneumatic, refrigeration, electrical applications, and trouble shooting skills are required; ability to analyze the performance and operating efficiency of the systems to optimize energy use and production; must be able to climb, crawl, and bend through opening to inspect; and must be able to lift 50 pounds; must have visual acuity and manual dexterity to operate vehicles, equipment, and hand power tools. High school graduate with equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience is required.
Additional Considerations:
Experience working in a university setting is preferred.
